A Reckoning, Not In but FROM Wisconsin

The vote in Wisconsin yesterday which placed 6 republicans up for recall by a liberal base infuriated over the successful legislation put forth in April limiting collective bargaining by unions was NOT a shot over the bow, not a referendum and not a precursor. It was a reckoning.

4 of the 6 republican senators held their seats in Wisconsin. Of those who lost, Dan Kapanke won his seat in a heavily democratic district by a very narrow margin last November and was in the greatest danger of losing this recall and Randy Hopper faced the ire of democrats for his support of the April legislation as well as from republicans who have been rightfully rankled over his tribulations regarding an affair with a young staffer outside his marriage.

This recall vote and the GOP success in it should send a clear message to liberals for several reasons.

CREDIT DOWNGRADE…The Ripple Effect & Who’s at Fault

On Friday, August 5th 2011, for the first time in history, the United States credit rating was downgraded. This unprecedented event will have political ripples as well as consumer ripples. This IS a serious event and the current administration KNOWS it despite their actions.

Before we get to the dodge and weave being suggested by many pundits, in regard to how Obama should react to this news, we should look at what this means to the average American consumer.

If you have a mortgage, a car loan, or you’re thinking of such in the near future, expect to pay a higher interest rate. Those who have a locked in mortgage are safe in that regard but those with variable rate mortgages, will find their interest rates going up.

Logical Thinking or Ideological Thinking

With the passage in the House of the debt deal yesterday and its passage in the Senate today party faithful from both sides of the political spectrum, elected officials and voters alike seem to be hopping mad. Even some who voted yes aren’t happy. What is everybody thinking? Maybe a better question would be…HOW are they thinking?

To answer this latter question one must examine from where they’re coming.

Democrats are really on fire over this. Their ideology is spend, entitle, tax, spend some more and grow government. Anything which gets in the way of that is deemed more despicable than building an off ramp across the environment inhabited by snail darters. Further, they see this legislation as being devised under the direction and strictly for the gain of, gasp, the Tea Party…their arch enemy.

Let’s Trade California

I was born and grew up in the Los Angeles area of Southern California for the most part. There was a time when I believed Los Angeles was the center of the civilized universe with its diversity of people, landscapes (mountains to beaches), laid-back attitude, and temperate weather. Sure, there was smog some days, and the temperature would soar into the 100s every October – but it was tolerable. I didn’t even mind when people said California was the Granola State, full of fruits, nuts, and flakes!

Employment opportunities abounded, aerospace was setting us apart from the rest of the world, entertainment and amusement was always accessible, and everyone had a car. No matter how far you drive in Los Angeles, it seems to take over an hour – whether it is 10 miles or 50 – but you accept that as the price of being mobile!

Deal vs Solution…The Great Debt Debate

Over the last several months we have seen continued battles over the debt. There have been possible government shutdowns, bailouts, proposed bailouts, calls for cutting spending, calls for higher taxes, a gang of 6, those who believe we have a revenue problem, those who believe we have a spending problem and a President who believes the best way OUT of the hole is to make the hole even DEEPER.

Obama wants to scare everyone into capitulation with liberal tax and spend ideologies and stonewalling while those who set our nation’s credit ratings seem set to sweep away our liberty in a tsunami of default.

“Democracy” and the Dismantling of Our Republic

“This democracy we have is a precious thing…” — Barack Obama.

I suppose I’d be hard-pressed to find a soul among us who hasn’t committed a substantial amount of our adult life watching the news, reading magazines, blog articles, newspapers, listening to talk-radio or chatting with sea-bound grobians among the citizenry. And, I suppose I’d come up empty-handed looking for a soul among us who hasn’t heard or read the word“democracy” kicked around more frequently than a hacky sack at a marathon Grateful Dead-Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young-Phish-Mamas and Papas-Doobie Brothers-The Birds-Simon and Garfunkel-Jefferson Airplane reunion tour. I suppose that, at the tender drinking age of double-decade-uno, had I decided to create a drinking game contingent on the usage of “democracy” among politicians and analysts and generally-untutored droids, I wouldn’t have the capacity to write this right now, as my body would be 10 years dissolved into the dirt and photos of my liver would be circulating among medical journals worldwide. How did he die? If Joe Biden were to answer, he’d say it all came down to a three-syllable word: Democracy.

Mis-Underestimated

A funny thing happened on the way to serenity the other night: I dropped by for a quick look at my Facebook page to see what was up, to see if anything was new, to discover that some of my friends–propelled by the offal-slinging rotors of ever-mounting and oscillating media coverage about a looming campaign season–were engaged in wall-to-wall combat. At first, I was pulled in as a spectator and nothing else; that is to say, there are moments when I truly believe I’ve had my fill of contentious political slingery, moments when I’d rather just sink back into my settee, pull the plugs (earplugs, that is!), and let the steam whistle from my drums…moments when I’d much rather think of something else, something else like the health and happiness of my parents and siblings, something else like the wonderfulness of my daughter, something else like the well-being of a dear friend up North, something else like the probability of my beloved Cubbies ever managing to win a World Series before my time on this Earth is through.

Can Barak Trump Donald?

From the time of his election, and yes, in fact, since his nomination, there have been questions regarding Barak Obama’s citizenship. The constitution is clear, “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

 

If one thing is clear regarding Obama and the liberal/socialist machine which protects him it is that they have established a pattern with their tactics. To see this tactic, one needs to step back and look at individual issues.

A Century Later – Unions, Wisconsin, History

It was 100 years ago today that the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire claimed the lives of many young women – due in great part to oppressive working conditions, a below-standards building, and a fire department ill equipped to deal with a 10-story building. The story is tragic on every level as it was preventable.

The event also spurred the labor unions into action – and rightfully so. Unions caught the public’s and journalists eye as they demanded that such practices that caused such a great loss of life in a matter of minutes would never happen again. Politicians listened, and laws changed. Occupational health and safety became a priority – as bid building inspections to find those not meeting the building codes. Women eventually were allowed to vote.

End Game or Game Over

Earlier, I wrote and posted pieces on the entitlement mentality of liberals and Obama’s Middle East policy unmasked. This piece, by combining aspects of both those previous entries, paints a bleak picture of the possible end game scenario.

First, let’s go back to the uprising in Egypt. It took more than a week before Obama said a word about that uprising once it began. When he did, he and other members of the administration seemed at odds over the message but eventually managed to settle on one talking point; Mubarak must go. It didn’t take long before Obama spoke publicly about the Muslim Brotherhood and how he felt they should have a seat at the table in forming a new Egyptian government.
