There’s never a Capitol Police Officer around when you really need one.
Take the Q-Anon Shaman, Jacob Chansley, as an example. When Shaman Chansley entered the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, he was just wandering around trying to enter locked doors until a Capitol Police Officer happened upon him in the right place, at the right time. Shaman Chansley was then ushered about the Capitol by more than one Johnny-On-The-Spot Capitol cop until they, on his behalf, found unlocked doors thus allowing the Shaman to enter previously locked rooms.
On the other hand, we have U.S. Congressman, Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) who had no such luck. Congress Bowman, unlike the Shaman, could not have been more alone in his moment of need. Locked out of Capitol, or more specifically IN the Cannon Building next TO the Capitol, Bowman TRIED pulling on the door, to no avail. At that point, Bowman did the only thing a guy in such dire straits COULD do…he pulled the fire alarm.
Naturally, Bowman claims that he had NO IDEA that pulling the fire alarm would cause the FIRE ALARM to go off. He CLAIMS he thought it would open the locked door. Honestly, one would think that a former middle, or high school principal would know better…but…
Without hesitation, AOC, the former bartender jumped to Bowman’s defense. AOC tried to deflect blame to the Republicans because they are not talking about throwing that lying sack of crap, Rep. George Santos (R-NY) out of congress, but they are talking of expelling Bowman for what he did, as AOC put it, “in a moment of panic.”
“A moment of PANIC?”
Yep. According to AOC, “And they are protecting someone who has lied to the American people, lied to the United States House of Representatives, lied to congressional investigators, but they’re filing a motion to expel a member who in a moment of panic was trying to escape a vestibule? Give me a break!”
I don’t know if anyone reading this commentary has ever been trapped in a vestibule, but apparently it’s absolutely TERRIFYING. Hollywood has made movies about being trapped in burning buildings, trapped in a tornado, trapped by volcanoes, trapped on Mars and all sorts of other things, but to my best knowledge, not even Hollywood has ever made a movie regarding being trapped in a vestibule. Just the thought of it is too much to be immortalized on film.
So, there was Congressman Bowman, a former middle school principal, TRAPPED in a life or death situation inside of a vestibule with both time and oxygen running out, and mistaking the bright red FIRE ALARM switch for a door handle, as one is apt to do in such a dire moment, Bowman pulled that BRIGHT RED switch, and, well, I can’t even imagine the overwhelming feeling of dread with surely overtook him in that moment, nor can I bring myself to contemplate the near-death experience he suffered, (having never been trapped in a vestibule myself) when the door did not open.
That said, Bowman is on record as stating, “No one in this country is above the law – including former President Trump,” and pulling the fire alarm when there either is no fire, or the door you’re trying to enter is locked, IS against the law. Bowman, unlike Trump, seems to think HE is above the law because he says that pulling the fire alarm when there was no fire was just a misunderstanding.
So, what WAS going on if there was no fire? Well…there was a vote going on as to whether or not temporary funding would be made available to keep the government up and running. If that vote would have failed, democrats and liberals were all set to level the blame for a government shutdown on Republicans and Conservatives, and it sure looked like, in the 11th hour, a deal had been reached to avert the shutdown the democrats were poised to blame on Republicans.
Now let me think…what could possibly delay such a vote?
Maybe…a FIRE ALARM?
Bowman, once he got out of the vestibule and back into the House voted in favor of the stop-gap spending bill, and claimed that he had left the chamber to go and READ the bill. I find that notion quite interesting. If he couldn’t read the sign on the vestibule door that said “emergency exit only” why would anyone believe that he could read the bill?
So, what are we to think? Well, when confronted with such a confusing problem, we can always count on the common sense explanation from the women on “The View.” Sunny Hostin of “The View” said “I know Jamaal, and so again, I’m a little biased, but the doors that are normally open so that he could get to the chambers to read, were somehow miraculously closed. How did that happen?” “Miraculously closed? The doors with the sign on them that read, “EMERGENCY EXIT ONLY,” were “MIRACULOUSLY closed?”
I have no idea what she was talking about, and I suspect…neither did she, but Hostin wasn’t finished. She went on to state, “So yes, sometimes you’re freaking out, and you’re in an elevator, and you’re pressing all the buttons.” Except Bowman wasn’t in an elevator, and there were no buttons to press. Then Whoopie Goldberg piped up and offered that Bowman wasn’t paying attention in his rush to vote, and “pressed a button” in an attempt to open the door.
Ummm…Bowman did not press any button, as there was no button there to press. What he did…was PULL the fire alarm.
Okay, so since none of the women on “The View” seem to know anything about a fire alarm, and since AOC seems to believe that Bowman was “trapped” in a vestibule and “panicked,” allow me, in my limited capacity having never been trapped in a vestibule myself, to ask a simple question that nobody has bothered to ask.
How did Congressman Bopwman get INTO the vestibule?
I believe that to be a very good question because I would think that however he got IN there, unless he was beamed in, would have been the most obvious way to get OUT. Let’s take a moment and think this thing through. I find it impossible to believe that even in DC, where abnormal is normal, that anyone would design a vestibule with no way out. I assume that Bowman entered the vestibule shortly before he wanted to exit the vestibule, and given the option of either leaving by the way he went in, or pulling the fire alarm, unless he was intentionally trying to cause a delay in the vote, he would have opted to leave by the same way he got in there.
Now then…if Bowman wants to stick to his statement that it was all a big misunderstanding, why did he not stick around and just own up to it immediately? He didn’t. He took off and only admitted to it later when the picture of him pulling the alarm went public.
And here’s something else that needs to be considered…at the time that Bowman pulled the fire alarm, his party was trying to delay the vote on the spending measure. It seems pretty clear that Bowman was intentionally trying to delay the proceedings in the House by setting off a fire alarm that would, and did result in the evacuation of the building and grind things to a halt on the House floor.
That’s obstructing an official proceeding. That’s against the law. That’s what J6 protesters have been charged with, and jailed for even though Capitol Police, in many cases on J6, opened the doors and ushered the protesters into the Capitol themselves.
Obstructing an official government proceeding is illegal under federal law punishable by fines and “not more than 20 years in prison.”
That said, here’s the law against pulling a fire alarm for false reasons in Washington D.C.: “It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to willfully or knowingly give a false alarm of fire within the District of Columbia, and any person or persons violating the provisions of this subsection shall, upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and be punished by a fine not more than the amount set forth in § 22-3571.01 or by imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Prosecutions for violation of the provisions of this subsection shall be on information filed in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia.”
It doesn’t really matter why Bowman pulled the fire alarm, to delay a vote or because he’s an idiot and thought it would open the door…it’s ILLEGAL to pull a fire alarm when there is no fire, so what is to be done with Bowman now? Should he be expelled from the House and on what grounds? Yes, for intentionally trying to delay an official proceeding, for violating the law, for trying to cover it up with nonsense and for being an abject idiot.
Should he go to jail, and on what grounds? Yes…see previous reasoning.
How about banishing Bowman from the U.S. altogether? Why not? I mean he not an illegal alien so there’s really no precedent for allowing him to stay in the country.
Here’s the bottom line…if ANYBODY had a reason to pull the fire alarm to delay a vote last week, it would have been Kevin McCarthy…at least his legacy as House Speaker WAS…going down in flames.
