Friends…on June 28th, my friend and colleague Diane Sori posted an article regarding my personal story and our current situation thanks to Obamacare. I can’t thank her enough for her desire to help…and help, she indeed has.
I wanted to bring you all up to speed with the progress made to this point, but before I do that, allow to take a moment to offer our most sincere appreciation for all that has been done…for all the kind and heartfelt donations to our GoFundMe site and for all the sharing of our story.
Your help in this most trying time, your generous donations mean more to us than words could ever express.
We are overwhelmed with gratitude and we thank each and every one who has given so generously to help us out.
Now then…on to the update…
Our situation, mine and my wife Susan’s, has been a two-fold situation.
There is the situation with Obamacare, which due to my health problems a year ago, and Obamacare’s inability to process patient information in anything near a timely manner, has resulted in a mountain of medical bills.
Our ability to handle these bills was compounded by the fact that my wife, Susan, lost her job just 8 months after we moved to Valentine Nebraska because our “friend” of 25 years suddenly decided she no longer wanted to own the women’s clothing boutique she begged Susan to come to Nebraska to manage. Our “friend” up and decided to close the store and sell the building…while I was in the hospital some 5 hours away in Omaha…and she didn’t even have the decency to inform Susan of her plans.
With me unable to work, due to my health problems for nearly all of last year, Susan was able to find a job selling radio advertising for the Twister…but it is a commission only job and she was opening a brand new territory. Money was not rolling in as you might expect.
The hospitals were suing us, Obamacare was so messed up they weren’t paying their share of our subsidies to the insurance companies and our coverage was, at one point cancelled, then reinstated with not one but 2 policies, then both coverages were cancelled before being reinstated once again. All of that resulted in us getting further and further behind in paying our out of pocket medical bills making it harder and harder to live month to month.
When it came time to file our taxes, Obamacare again reared its ever-so-ugly head and our 1095A forms were not sent. By early this year, we were behind in our rent but we made a deal with our landlords, that as soon as we got our tax return, we would get caught up. Because of Obamacare, and their endless delays and even more endless excuses…our landlords decided to sell the home in which we are living and gave us 30 days to get out.
That brings me to the second part of our situation…
With me now working part-time, and Susan’s client base slowly growing…but still with a mountain of bills…we were facing homelessness.
To this point, we have exhausted every option or possible option in looking for a place to rent. Here in our town…there simply isn’t anything available other than one, nearly unlivable house that fails to meet even the simplest codes and would be a health hazard.
What were we to do? How could we possibly turn this all around?
That’s when Diane suggested a GoFundMe account, where people could make donations to assist us in dealing with this dire situation we are facing. Thank you Diane.
That brings us to the here and now…and some uplifting news…
We have found a place to live. That’s the great news. It’s a fixer-upper located in a small community about 25 miles from our current home. It’s not perfect, it needs work, but it will be a roof over our heads and will allow us to keep our little family of a dog and two cats intact.
It truly is a blessing.
But, in the coming days, as we have only until August 4th to be moved out of our current home, we still desperately need your generous help.
Just another $2500.00 in the next few days will make all the difference in the world. We need to make our down payments and find a few good folks who can help us move our belongings from point “A” to point “B” so that we will have a base from which to start over.
Friends and fellow Patriots…can you help?
Would you help?
For years, I have been a man of words and yet, per the generosity and caring we have received and for that which we know will be forthcoming…I am at a complete loss for the words necessary to adequately express our deep, and heartfelt gratitude.
It’s one mountain at a time. The first mountain is getting in the house, the second, is the medical bill situation.
With your kind and generous help, we can scale that first mountain. If everyone reading this article today makes even a small $10.00 or $20.00 donation…we will find ourselves atop that first mountain. I know we’re asking a lot, but soon, we hope to be in a position where we can return your kindness by helping others as you are helping us.
Right now, I am helping a local grassroots organization to stave off the building of wind farms complete with high voltage transmission lines here in our Cherry County Sandhills…wind farms that would devastate the landscape and pose great risks not only to the ranching economy, but lower property values for adjoining land owners and be dangerous to the multitude of migratory birds. It’s a big challenge, there are so many good folks working so hard to stop this and I am honored to be among them.
Once again, our deepest thanks for all you have done for us and all that I know you will do in the next few days. Please visit our GoFundMe page by clicking here, please donate and also, please share this article far and wide as we close in on reaching the top of that first mountain.
With your help and generosity…we will make this happen.
