It was the 4th of July and after drinking,, 22 year old Devon Staples of Calais Maine thought it would be…funny…if he placed a fireworks “mortar” tube on top of his head…dropped a round into it and lit the fuse.

According to his older brother, Cody, who said that friends apparently tried to dissuade him…“Devon was not the kind of person who would do something stupid. He was the kind of person who would pretend to do something stupid to make people laugh.”

It was the last thing Devon Staples ever did.

When the round ignited…it killed him instantly. Again, according to Cody Staples, who was just a few feet away…“There was no rushing him to the hospital. There was no Devon left when I got there.”

We are not talking about some kid here. This was not some adolescent playing with fireworks sans adult supervision. This was a full grown idiot who should have known better but let’s get back to his brother, Cody, for a moment.

Cody Staples, 25 years old, is on record describing the event this way…

“It was a freak accident.” Cody continued along those lines with THIS gem…telling reporters that his brother, Devon was, “holding a lighter and accidentally set the firework off while holding it on his head.”

Uh huh…let’s just see if we have all this straight shall we?

A 22 year old adult was drinking with friends on the 4th of July when HE thought it would be FUNNY to hold a mortar type firework tube atop his head when…somehow…he “accidentally” loaded the tube with a live round and then…”ACCIDENTALLY” held a lighter to the fuse…”ACCIDENTALLY” lit that fuse resulting in a “FREAK ACCIDENT” that killed the man instantly.

Naturally, his mother is taking the death of her son hard but…SHE has offered up a solution to this whole problem of absolute idiots lighting fireworks off from the top of their heads.

Mom…one Kathleen Staples, now wants the GOVERNMENT to pass a law requiring safety training courses before anyone is allowed to play with fireworks. In her words…“At least it’d be a little bit more than, ‘Here you go. That’s an explosive. They didn’t just hand me a license and put me in the car.”

Kathleen Staples already has an ally in the Maine state legislature…Rep. Michel Lajoie, a liberal idiot who says that he is ready to introduce a bill to repeal the 2012 law that made private use of fireworks legal in his state after they were banned since 1949.

This is the nature of liberals in our country today.

GOVERNMENT is ALWAYS their answer. To a liberal, there just isn’t enough government intervention to keep things from happening. ONLY by employing MORE government could this have been avoided.

It’s not like there has been an epidemic of idiots killing themselves with fireworks in Maine since 2012. In fact, Devon Staples if the FIRST to challenge Darwin and lose in that regard SINCE fireworks were made legal in Maine as apparently, he has, at least so far, been the only person moronic enough in the state of Maine to wear a mortar tube as a hat and light the damn thing.

Clearly, the instructions state that the tube is to be placed on level GROUND, the round loaded into it, light the fuse and run away.

While Devon Staples was indeed the first to self-thin the herd in Maine, he is most decidedly NOT the first considered by his family and friends, to be blameless for his own stupidity. THAT is a very long line indeed.

We hear about such things all the time. Like the guy who was trying to break into a school, in the dark of night, who fell through a skylight and sued the maker of the skylight for his injuries. We hear of people who point guns at cops and pay the price but who gets blamed? Naturally, the cops.

Hell…there are now people tying themselves in knots to blame a flag for the disturbed actions of a single individual. It couldn’t POSSIBLY be the fault of the idiot breaking into the school that he got hurt…it COULDN’T possibly be the fault of the morons who point guns at cops that THEY get filled with holes…it CAN’T be the fault of the INDIVIDUAL who walked into a church and murdered 9 innocent people and it simply couldn’t be the fault of a 22 year old IDIOT who fired off a firework mortar from atop his head that HE died instantly.

Here’s a news flash for liberals everywhere…NO amount of laws…NO amount of government intrusions are going to prevent morons and idiots from harming themselves or protect others from their moronic and idiotic behavior. Want proof? Look at Chicago. Over the 4th of July weekend, 10 people were shot and killed and 55 more were shot and wounded in Chicago…a virtual gun free zone where some of THE strictest gun laws in the nation are in place.

And what is the answer to THAT statistic, according to Mayor Rahm Emanuel?

MORE gun laws.

Here are the facts that liberals and mothers of idiots don’t want anyone to know…

Maine has a total population of 1,328,361 people…1,328,360 of which somehow managed NOT to put a fireworks mortar tube on their head, drop in a live round and light it resulting in proof that Darwin was right yet…now they are actually considering a law, more government intrusion, to prevent idiots and morons from doing what 22 year old Devon Staples did last Saturday night.

It’s high time that we, in this country, stop trying to assess blame on everything but the person whose actions are at the root cause of the specific problem and start taking personal responsibility for our own actions and assess the blame directly TO the person responsible.

In other words…the next time you decide to make toast while taking a bubble bath…what is bound to occur is NOT the fault of the tub, the bubbles, the toaster nor is it the fault of Wonder Bread and the last thing we need is government and some idiots mother trying to regulate any of those things on behalf of some sizzling liberal moron.

Now then…go forth and don’t run with scissors.
