Well now…don’t we all just feel REAL safe when we go to the airport and board a flight to somewhere?
Over the past few days, we have learned that the TSA…the Transportation Safety Administration for technical identification purposes…Touchin’ Feelin’ and Squeezin’ for reality’s sake…has FAILED on 95% of airport security tests conducted by its parent bacterial infestation…the DHS…a governmental agency that has spent tens of BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to accomplish what, exactly?
Oh, that’s right…according to the official congressional report…absolutely nothing.
And we should be surprised by the TSA’s failure in this regard?
Try sneaking too much shampoo onto your flight or get caught with something as dangerous as a nail clippers in your carry-on bag and YOU just might find yourself on the NO FLY list but…smuggle fake explosives, guns, ammo and other contraband past airport screeners…
Excuse me sir…
Is that a hand grenade in your pants or are you just happy to see me?
As told by ABC news…”In one test an undercover agent was stopped after setting off an alarm at a magnetometer, but TSA screeners failed to detect a fake explosive device that was taped to her back during a follow-on pat down.”
Well, I’m sure…had her boobs been on her back they may have found something.
According to an official statement released by the TSA on this matter…”The numbers in these reports never look good out of context, but they are a critical element in the continual evolution of our aviation security.”
Okay…that begs the question…in what context WOULD failing 95% of all undercover security tests at airports in major cities actually look GOOD?
But the statements oozing from the TSA didn’t stop there…they actually BRAGGED that, in 2014, the TSA discovered and confiscated…2,212 firearms at 224 airports after screening 653 million passengers. BRAVO!!! Now, let’s extrapolate the numbers shall we?
At a 95% failure rate…that means that potentially 42,028 weapons were never discovered but I did once see an 80 something year old NUN being wanded by a guy wearing blue rubber gloves so…
Alrighty then…last week, we got THIS news from the Touchin’ Feelin and Squeezin’ sharp-as-a-bag-of-doorknobs ace security folks…
“The TSA’smulti-layered process to vet aviation workers for potential links to terrorism was generally effective. In addition to initially vetting every application for new credentials, TSA recurrently vetted aviation workers with access to secured areas of commercial airports every time the Consolidated Terrorist Watchlist was updated.”
Pardon me…”GENERALLY effective”
“However, our testing showed that TSA did not identify 73 individuals with terrorism-related category codes because TSA is not authorized to receive all terrorism-related information under current interagency watchlisting policy.”
Let’s recap…the TSA is part of the DHS which also umbrellas 21 other federal agencies including the Secret Service (which appears to be spending the bulk of their efforts consorting with prostitutes, drinking while on duty and sending lewd text messages to one another) and the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (which seems, in this case, to be as adept as a spastic pig on ice skates) and nobody is sharing the who’s who of terrorists with the people who have been tasked with rooting out the Sisters of the Immaculate Octogenarian al-Qaeda Akbars?
The TSA has been the chief snoopers for terrorists at our airports since 2002 and, after 13 years…they are just now telling us they really have no idea who they’re handing out credentials to. Thank GOD they’re on the case huh?
Well, I am certain they are taking decisive steps to rectify these issues and…step ONE of course is to find out just who in THE hell…LEAKED THESE FAILURE REPORTS to the press.
Yep…just days ago…DHS Inspector General John Roth informed the Senate Homeland Security Committee, in a hearing…in no uncertain terms that…“We have started an investigation to determine where the leak was. I was as disturbed as anyone that this information got into the media.”
Well…at least he was disturbed by SOMETHING although I, for one, would rather he be disturbed that 95% of security tests were FAILED and that 73 people with security credentials HAVE TERRORIST TIES but Senator Ron Johnson, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee seems to have a grip on things as HE stated…“What we’re doing clearly isn’t working. We need to think outside the box.”
Now wait just a damn minute here…somehow actually not missing 95% of weapons being carried by undercover agents in tests, which might lead to the TSA actually catching a TERRORIST after 13 years on the job and NOT giving airport security credentials TO people with ties to terrorism would be…THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX???
While I extend all proper kudos to the TSA for having prevented the hijacking of or bringing down of any aircraft, since 9/11, with more than four ounces of Pert Plus or by deploying a weapon of mass destruction used for the precise removal of a hangnail…that is exactly the sort of IN the box thinking that led an entity that couldn’t build a functioning WEB SITE to believe they could be the MASTER of our nation’s HEALTH CARE universe.
Perhaps a good place to begin, with regard to how to FIX all of this, would be to START doing BACKGROUND checks on those EMPLOYED by the TSA and these opening salvos from news reports might explain my meaning…
“A Christian rock musician who once played for Pope John Paul II was nearly beaten to death early yesterday by an off duty airport security agent during a Brooklyn road rage clash”
“Two airport screeners at Kennedy Airport both of them women have been arrested and charged with stealing the wallet of a man who was going through security screening.”
“Massachusetts and Florida police arrested a Logan Airport Lead Transportation Security Officer on a variety of child pornography charges.”
“A TSA agent has been arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor after police say he tried to keep a girl as a sex slave.”
“A TSA employee at Logan International Airport is facing statutory rape charges Tuesday. Sean Shanahan was arrested by police in Winthrop. Officials say he sexually assaulted a 14 year old girl at his home during school vacation week.”
“A Transportation Security Administration screener at Miami International Airport was arrested this week for allegedly beating up a coworker after months of jokes about the size of the screener’s genitalia that colleagues observed during training with full body scanning machines.”
“A Transportation Security Administration agent has been arrested for allegedly stealing nearly $500 dollars from a wheelchair bound passenger as she passed through a security checkpoint at Newark Airport.”
“A TSA security screening supervisor at Newark Liberty International Airport has admitted accepting bribes and kickbacks from a coworker who stole money from passengers during security screenings.”
“Port Authority police busted two Transportation Safety Administration employees for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from checked baggage at John F. Kennedy Airport.”
The list goes on and on dating back more than a decade and THIS one is of PARTICULAR note…”Minnetta Walker is a behavioral detection officer at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Her job is to walk through the airport and look for individuals who might be planning some criminal activity.”
And with what crime was Minnetta Walker charged?
“Felony charge of conspiring to defraud the government by interfering with security measures at the airport.”
Given that…and the leaked information regarding the fact that 73 people with ties to terrorism have received official security credentials and the fact that the TSA has FAILED 95% of their undercover security tests…maybe the entire AGENCY is guilty of defrauding the government by interfering with security measures at the airport.
It seems to me that airport security would be better handled by PRIVATE enterprise than by the GOVERNMENT where PERFORMANCE dictates who gets to keep their jobs rather than having it dictated by a bunch of pencil-pushing bureaucratic yahoos but that’s not at all how liberal Senator Clair McCaskill sees it.
“We’ve got to remember, as we all sit and pound the desk about how bad TSA is, we keep cutting the amount of money they have. And we ask them to do more and do it better.”
Ummm…the TSA has a fiscal 2015 budget of $4.6 BILLION dollars which is down only $300 million from last year and…when you add in something called spending authority from offsetting collections…their total annual budget is nearly $7 billion dollars.
According to Obama’s 2016 budget proposal…the TSA would face a “reduction of $119 million and 1,748 full-time employees related to workforce savings from risk-based security efficiencies in the aviation sector.” As an example, a healthy portion of the proposed decrease can be attributed to “more efficient methods in moving people through security checkpoints, requiring fewer resources.”
I guess…if you have no intention of finding weapons…you don’t need as many people to produce a 95% failure rate, now do you?
Those 73 people with security credentials that HAVE TERRORIST TIES, do most of them have Middle Eastern Mohammidan-type names?
