If you want to get shot and killed by the police, just point a gun at one.
Antonio Martin discovered the harsh truth of that statement a week ago but there’s more to it than just the cold dead truth.
I have watched and watched that video. The one that shows 18 year old Antonio Martin’s last moments on this earth. The one from a surveillance camera outside a convenience store just two miles from the spot where Mike Brown played the ultimate game and lost.
To really understand this, to know where I’m going with this, one must step back and see the bigger picture. One must understand the full totality of what preceded that video and the mindset of an 18 year old thug with a long record of arrests.
To start with…
That night, Tuesday December 23rd, Antonio Martin made some fatal decisions. He put a gun in his pocket. He and his thug friend went down to the Mobil gas station in Berkley Missouri and then, they robbed the place.
A kid with a record including three ARMED assaults…ARMED criminal action and ARMED robbery…all since his 17th birthday…went to a gas station and convenience store, with a gun, and robbed it.
What Antonio Martin and his thug pal did next is astonishing really…
They walked outside the Mobil gas station they had just robbed and…they stood there, in the parking lot. They just hung around. They loitered.
They didn’t run away. They most clearly could have. Most armed robbers do just that. They run…they could have simply scattered…taking off in all directions but they didn’t. They stayed right there, in the parking lot of the convenience store and gas station they had just robbed.
The only reason for this obtuse behavior is more disturbing than the crime itself.
They wanted to be caught. They had to know that the attendant would call the police and that the police would come and that has to be exactly what they wanted to happen. Not because they wanted to be arrested for the crime they had just committed but, because they really wanted to commit an even bigger crime.
Consider this…
Antonio Martin and his thug buddy had every intent that might…Tuesday December 23rd, of killing a cop.
Think about it.
In the video, we see them milling about in the parking lot.
Then we see the police cruiser pull into the driveway of the Mobil Station.
Do the thugs who had just robbed that gas station take off like jack rabbits? Do they scatter to the winds?
Nope.
In fact…after trying to engage a couple of people with a baby stroller…they calmly walk right toward the police cruiser. RIGHT TO IT seemingly without a care in the world.
Antonio Martin who, rather than approach the police cruiser’s door as the officer got out of the vehicle as his thug cohort did…calmly walked toward the front of the car and slowly, put some distance between himself and the officer. He managed to work his way just far enough back as to walk out of the camera frame at the upper left of the screen before, just as calmly, he advanced back INTO the frame.
After a few brief seconds, while his buddy held the officer’s attention or at least THOUGHT he was holding the officer’s attention…Antonio Martin reached down and drew a gun from his pants pocket and, at arm’s length, pointed it directly at the cop.
It would be the last thing that thug ever did.
The Mayor of Berkley Missouri recounted the fine details not seen in the video edited to stop just a blink of an eye before the shots were fired….about how the officer had in HIS hand a flashlight the beam of which is visible in the video. How, just as Martin began to aim at the officer, his thug friend began to turn and run and how the officer, having dropped his flashlight began to back-peddle, stumbling just slightly as he drew HIS service weapon and fired on Antonio Martin.
At this point, we don’t yet know where Antonio Martin got the weapon he pointed at the officer but that weapon WAS recovered at the scene. We don’t know why Martin didn’t fire the weapon. Was it jammed? Did he hesitate? Was he, for a split second, distracted by his thug partner starting to run or the officer’s momentary stumble?
Or was it that he was waiting, as per some sinister plan, FOR his thug partner to take off in order to distract the police officer?
THAT seems highly more likely.
For the very life of me I cannot come up with any different scenario.
AFTER robbing the gas station…why ELSE would the two thugs meander in the parking lot? Why else would they calmly walk right up TO a police car after having just robbed that gas station? Why else would one stand and talk TO the officer while the other, the one with the gun, slowly put a little distance between himself and the officer?
Why would he, Antonio Martin, then advance TOWARD the officer and raise the gun then…hesitate…thus making his final fatal decision of the night…of his life?
You can’t chalk it up to sheer stupidity because NOBODY, not even a thug, is THAT stupid. He, Antonio Martin was 18 years old. An adult in the eyes of the law and anybody who had had as many arrests at 17 as did Martin would have known that NOW, the law would treat him AS an adult so you can’t put this on brazenness or arrogance either.
Human nature, especially among young criminals is to run like hell after committing a crime.
The cop pulls into the driveway and rather than beating all hell in the opposite direction, Martin and his partner strolled up TO the police car seemingly without a single care.
The only thing that makes sense is that this was to have been an ambush. Antonio Martin must have intended to shoot at and kill a police officer just two miles from the spot where Mike Brown, tried to kill officer Darren Wilson on August 9th.
This was, in my opinion, to be retribution. Revenge for another dead thug. THIS was meant to finish what Brown started. This was, must have been, Antonio Martin’s requiem for what HE considered to have been a hero figure.
As disturbing as this possible scenario…probable scenario is, more disturbing is that, after the assassination of officers Ramos and Liu in NYC and THIS incident…THIS is the new reality for ALL officers of the law EVERYWHERE.
It has never been a mundane or safe occupation…being a police officer…but the dangers faced daily even during what seem to be the most benign, routine interactions between law enforcement and civilians has now become even more hazardous.
Any cop that hesitates could be dead and with more than 900,000 members of law enforcement on the job, our streets have now become a target-rich environment for murderous thugs.
Any cop that acts too fast will face criminal charges. Any who REACT too slowly will be killed.
There’s one thing about the thug culture that needs to be made note of here as well…they are generally not lone wolves. They travel in packs and they don’t give a damn about collateral damage. If innocent bystanders get caught up in their hell bent for murdering cops schemes…so be it…the thugs couldn’t care less.
That TOO makes it more difficult for the cops as they DO care and WILL hesitate when they believe others to be in the line of fire.
Regardless of the propaganda put forth by the ilk of Obama, Holder, Sharpton and Jackson…regardless of the lunatic ramblings of de Blasio and other liberal or socialist bottom feeders…what we have is NOT a systemic problem within the thin blue line…what we DO have is a systemic problem with the thug culture.
More on this in tomorrow’s National Patriot.
Being a cop more dangerous than ever before….
I hadn’t thought about your premise, but after reading it, I think you have hit the nail on the head. If they, the thugs, what to make an impression on the general public, that is just the way to do it. The situation in our great country has been set back at least 50 years, and I put that right on the head of our current leader and his AG.
