How did things turn out in your state’s primary elections this year? Did your Tea Party candidate win? Some did, a few, too few for my liking and most likely for your liking as well.
Why is that? Why didn’t we win MORE primaries?
I’ll tell you why. Because as Tea Party Patriots and those who want a return to a Constitutional republic, far too many of us stand on our own little individual islands when it comes to candidates and that is exactly what liberals and for that matter, the GOP establishment want us to do.
It’s time to change all that and start winning…not only in the primary elections but in the general elections too but what we need is a strategy. A WINNING strategy.
First off…one of the main reasons the Tea Party didn’t show well in this year’s primaries is right there on our voter registration cards.
Back in 2010, with the decisive victory in the house, the shellacking of the liberals, many went and changed their voter registration to Tea Party based on how proud we were of what we had just accomplished. Pride gets us nowhere and here’s why.
In MANY states, when it comes to the primaries, only registered REPUBLICANS can VOTE in the primaries. If you have reregistered as something else…Tea Party…Constitutional Party…Libertarian…whatever…you can’t vote in the primary or, if they allow you to CAST a vote…it’s wiped out by your ‘other’ party registration. That being the case, guess who wins…the GOP establishment candidate and NOT the Tea Party candidate.
We must remember that the Tea Party is a MOVEMENT, a grass roots movement…
A state of mind and NOT an actual political party.
So…reset your voter registration to REPUBLICAN and hold fast on your Tea Party state of mind so that when the next election comes along…into the voting booth you go to vote for the Tea Party candidate.
Here’s another big reason we’re not sweeping the primaries like we should.
Liberals put up one, maybe two candidates for any given seat but what do WE Conservatives do? We put up four, five, six or more for the same given seat and naturally, there’s the GOP with ONE candidate in the race.
What happens???
We, as Tea Party voters wind up splitting OUR votes four, five, six or more ways while the GOP establishment reaps the rewards of OUR individual one and only candidate who can save us approach. Each Tea Party candidate gets maybe a few percentage points of the total ‘Republican’ primary vote and the GOP candidate gets the BULK of it. GOP establishment WINS…Tea Party loses.
So how do we solve THAT problem???
The answer will take the sort of coordination not yet present in the Tea Party movement and it will require a much more organized, near actual party approach, a sort of hybrid between a party and a grass roots mindset but it CAN and MUST be done in order to turn things our way for 2016.
First, Tea Party candidates needs to park the social issues at the door and I know that will rile many Tea Party Patriots but the facts are the facts and we must find a way to win…not just run candidates.
This is high stakes poker against a foe, the liberals, socialist progressives who, right now, have us right where they want us…concentrating on the social issues. That’s their strongest hand but only a hand they can win if WE take them on at THEIR level.
Each side, the liberals and Conservatives, have two hands of cards. A political policy hand and a social issues hand and from what we’ve seen over the past several elections…political policy beats social issues. We WON in 2010, SHELLACKING the liberals by playing our POLITICAL POLICY cards. We LOST in 2012 by playing the LIBERAL game, by THEIR rules and engaging in a SOCIAL ISSUES fight.
If we’re going to win in 2016…we MUST play our STRONGEST hand and the hand liberals simply can’t bluff their way through…social issues are emotional issues and liberals can bluff their way through emotions but POLITICAL POLICY issues are matters of cold hard facts and truth and let’s face it, liberals have absolutely no use for facts and truth so…whether you’re a candidate or a voter…leave the social issues at the door.
Next, and this is where the as yet to be recognized organization and coordination of all the various Tea Party groups and mindsets comes into play…campaign for and push like hell, your Tea Party individual one and only candidates…based solely on their political policy platforms leading into the primaries…get their individual policy messages out there far and wide both on a state level AND on the national stage whether they’re running for the house, the senate or the presidency…campaign for them like the future of our nation depends on it because, in fact, it does.
Then…about 90 days AHEAD of your state’s primary…the Tea Party MOVEMENT needs to hold their OWN primary…an official straw poll of sorts…that will select ONE candidate for each position including a PRESIDENTIAL candidate.
OF the various presidential candidates chosen by the various states…60 days before the choosing of the REPUBLICAN nominee…hold ANOTHER official, well-coordinated straw vote to pick the ONE Tea Party candidate for PRESIDENT.
This way, as we move into the presidential DEBATE season of 2016…rather than have 20 candidates vying for the Republican nomination…we, the Tea Party…has our STRONGEST on POLITICAL POLICY candidate up there taking on whoever the GOP has to offer and if they have more than one…guess who is going to have their vote split in 2016.
NOT the TEA Party.
Now then…combine THIS part of the strategy with the PREVIOUS part, where we are all registered as REPUBLICANS so we can VOTE in the primaries and you can see…based on the numbers of VOTERS and the LIMITED number of Tea Party Candidates how we stand a MUCH better chance of getting solid CONSERVATIVES whose POLITICAL POLICY winning hands at the table to go up against the liberal/socialist/progressive whiners and their weak, emotional social issues hand.
Think about it. If the driving issues in 2016 are Obama…we win…Taxes…we win…The economy…we win…jobs…we win…the national debt and deficit spending…we win…border security…we win…Foreign policy…Benghazi, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, China, North Korea…we win…Strengthening our military…we win…Caring for our veterans…we win…The IRS or the NSA…we win…The Keystone XL pipeline and energy independence…we win…When it comes to political policy, foreign or domestic…WE WIN!!!
However…if we allow the liberals and socialists and progressives to have THEIR way and we base our 2016 strategy on religion, abortion, gay issues, and other social issues…we’re going to lose just like we did in 2012.
Now, for those Conservatives and Tea Party voters out there who still believe we have to make 2016 about the social issues and those who intend to stand on those social issues principles…answer me this one question: How do we fix what you believe to be the most threatening issues (the gay agenda and abortion rights…) if we keep LOSING the elections and how can we WIN elections if we continue to write in a variety candidates names rather than voting for the nominee ?
Finally…in order to begin the process of taking our country back and keep in mind, this IS a PROCESS as no one election nor single candidate can accomplish the goal of returning this nation to the Constitutional rule of law and a 75% or 80% win is far, FAR better than a 100% LOSS…we as Tea Party CONSERVATIVES must…we MUST throw our support behind whoever is OUR candidate in the primary and we ABSOLUTELY MUST vote for whoever is the Republican nominee…EVEN IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE THE GOP ESTABLISHMENT candidate.
Again…it’s nothing but a numbers game here. If we, as Tea Party voters take to writing in candidates of our own personal choosing because we are not in 100% agreement with the nominee, we’ll see the exact same outcome as we did in 2012…a vote split a dozen ways with the Republican nominee on the losing end and that is EXACTLY what the liberals/socialists and progressives are COUNTING on as splitting OUR vote leads to THEIR victory in 2016 and I think we can all agree that our country simply can’t withstand another eight or even four years of the liberal political policy agenda and ideology.
If we Conservatives, Tea Party voters can agree to REGISTER REPUBLICAN and can unite behind a LIMITED number of or SINGLE candidate chosen by a VOTE of We the People before the primaries and the debates, based on our WINNING hand of POLITICAL POLICIES while both the candidates AND we as voters leave that which divides us…the social issues parked outside…we can INCREASE our strength through the INCLUSION of those who may differ with us socially but vote like us POLITICALLY and WIN in 2016.
Now wouldn’t that just piss off the liberals and the RINOs???
We definitely have to take them out through the primaries, but after the South Carolina fiasco with, I believe, 6 candidates vying to unseat Lindsey Graham, it occurred to me that we need a pre-primary “primary”.
The Party of Lincoln is still the Party of Freedom.
A good example of what you are talking about happened here in Nevada. The democRats fielded eight lambs for the governor’s race and none of the above had the most votes. Harry Reid is hoping to have a democRat win the Lt. Governor’s race that way if the governor runs against him in 2016 he gets another democratic controlled stated.
Another great article Craig. The Tea Party keeps fielding too many candidates for each riding and as you indicate this dilutes the vote very quickly. We have seen it here in Canada as well and it is very frustrating to voters who are trying to change things for the better and just end up with the same ol same ol results.
