When Core Values are Replaced by Street Cred

As we continue to deal with the stupidity of those who believe that, somehow, Treyvon Martin, a punk wannabe, a drug user and a thief, was an innocent, angelic little child, we find another case of woefully misguided wailing going on.

In NY last weekend, cops responded to an incident.

It was 3am on Sunday morning.

Nothing good happens on the streets of ANY city at 3am and the one that never sleeps is no exception.

The 2 rookie cops, on the force since January, 2013, heard shots ring out and, as they were on foot patrol, ran to the scene.

That’s where they discovered 14 year old Shaaliver Douse, with a 9 mm handgun, firing at a man who was running away from the front of a bodega.

The cops IDENTIFIED themselves AS cops, ORDERED the kid to DROP THE WEAPON and then, as the fleeing man ran past them, Shaaliver Douse fired a 4th time.

It would be the last thing he ever did.

One of the rookie cops fired a single shot, hitting Douse in the face and the 14 year old was dead.

That’s where Douse’s Aunt, Quwana Barcene, comes in.

Barcene told the New York times, and I quote:

“It’s not fair. It was my sister’s only child. You shouldn’t have to bury your child.”

Hmmm…

“It’s not fair…”

Really?

It was 3am on a Sunday morning.

One MIGHT want to know WHY a 14 year old kid was ANYWHERE but IN HIS BED at 3am on a Sunday morning.

One MIGHT want to know why a 14 year old kid had a 9 mm handgun.

One MIGHT want to know where that 14 year old kid GOT that 9 mm handgun.

One MIGHT want to know WHY he was shooting at a man’s BACK as that man was RUNNING AWAY.

And, one MIGHT want to know WHY, when ordered by POLICE who HAD ALREADY identified themselves, to drop the weapon, that 14 year old kid FIRED ANOTHER ROUND either AT the cops or PAST them at the fleeing man.

Apparently, those were NOT questions in which Douse’s Aunt, “It’s not fair. It was my sister’s only child. You shouldn’t have to bury your child,”

Douse was no saint.

Last May, he had been charged with attempted murder when a 15 year old kid was shot in Douse’s neighborhood but THAT case was “deferred” because the victim either couldn’t or wouldn’t identify the shooter.

That was 2 miles from where Douse was shot and killed by the cops last Sunday.

But this is the reality of it all.

The Aunt of the 14 year old kid, 2 miles from home, at 3am, firing a 9mm at a fleeing man even after being told to drop the weapon by officers, thinks it’s not “fair” because, the shooter was the only child of her sister.

One wonders…Would it have been “fair” had the kid shot and killed the man who was running away?

Would it have been “fair” had he shot the cops?

Would it have been “fair” to have simply allowed the 14 year old to do whatever he pleased including shooting at whoever he felt like shooting at?

Will Eric Holder chase this to nowhere when the cops are found to have been justified in the shooting?

Fair?

Are we now to dispense justice or enforce laws based on what a family member considers to be fair according to the law breaker’s sibling situation?

Again, according to the dead kid’s Aunt, “My beautiful nephew got shot in the head. A mother of one now has to bury her only child.”

Her…”BEAUTIFUL NEPHEW,” the one seen here making a gang sign, was on the streets, at 3am, shooting at some guy’s back and possibly at the cops.

That’s the photo she taped to a cinder block wall under a hand full of flowers as a memorial to her “beautiful nephew.”

Allow me to break this as gently as I can to this kid’s Aunt.

Your nephew was anything but “beautiful.

He was ugly.

There is nothing “beautiful” about flashing gang signs to a camera. There’s nothing “beautiful” about trying to commit murder. There’s nothing “beautiful” about disobeying the direct order of the cops and nothing “beautiful” about shooting at or passed the cops.

That kid, just like Treyvon, was on a fast track to self-destruction.

The culture of violence is not being perpetrated AGAINST kids like Douse of Treyvon Martin…It’s being perpetrated BY them.

If this kid, Douse, gave a tinker’s damn about what his Aunt thought was fair he wouldn’t have been out on the streets with a gun at 3am.

What this is, is a microcosm, a slice of societal life.

Decades have been spent on teaching youth that they are somehow entitled and that their “right” to NOT be disrespected trumps all other REAL rights. God has been removed from schools and reason and family values removed from homes. Parents are brought up on charges for applying discipline to their kids and school bus drivers now fear the children they carry and the legal system that they will face should they try and break up a fight.

Decade upon decade invested in making sure the inmates are running the asylum and we’re somehow surprised when it doesn’t turn out well?

We’re surprised by the transferring of blame?

Nobody with a lick of common sense can possibly believe that stricter gun laws or the elimination of the 2nd Amendment would have kept this from happening or kept Douse from being killed.

“It’s not fair. It was my sister’s only child. You shouldn’t have to bury your child. My beautiful nephew got shot in the head. A mother of one now has to bury her only child.”

HE, Douse, GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD…As though it happened out of the clear 3am night sky.

“A mother of one now has to bury her only child,” as though the mother would have been less a traumatized victim in all this had she already had replacement  or fallback children.

“My beautiful nephew…”

“It’s not fair.”

Lady…Your “Beautiful” nephew was trying to commit a MURDER on the streets at 3AM and DAMN NEAR SHOT A COP in the process. He was a punk. He had been in trouble, BIG trouble before. He was a little gang banger or gang banger wannabe.

This isn’t about race.

This is about values and respect.

Regardless of skin color, when core values are replaced by street cred, society as a whole, again, regardless of skin color, suffers.

But for those all too eager to make everything a racial issue, allow me to impart some staggering statistics.

Blacks make up 12.5 % of America’s population.

49% of all murder victims in America are black.

93% of black murder victims are killed by other people of the same skin color.

Sharpton, Jackson, Pelosi, Obama, ALL of you who rely on the remaining 7% or less for your relevancy…You want to have a national conversation about violence and race???

Here’s your conversation starter.

It’s not an abundance of racial profiling that’s killing your children in the streets, it’s a complete lack of values, morals and respect that keeps good people from leaving their homes and apartments and keeps those with evil intentions on the street at 3am.

Sharpton, Jackson, Pelosi, Obama…Take it from there.

  1. Ready for this? I just did a search and found out that there are two Facebook pages for
Shaaliver Douse, the kid who was shot. One page is, “Justice for Shaaliver Douse”, and the other one is, R.I.P. Shaaliver Douse

  2. The reason that they think that they can do whatever they want and get away with it is because that is what they are learning from their role model, Barack Hussein obama. Obama has proven that he can do whatever he wants to and never face any consequences because the reason he got elected was because he is black and the reason he will never be impeached is also because he is black. It would be “racist” to impeach the first black president.

  3. It’s too bad the black “leaders” have chosen to play race card games with these deaths rather than letting their people know the truth of their actions as well as the consequences which do not care about the skin color of a kid who breaks the law. It doesn’t help these kids to think they deserve to be given a get out of jail pass because of the color of their skin. It just makes it seem like it is OK for them to do whatever they please, and nothing will harm them in return. Unfortunately, it just promotes more violence and crime, making more mothers heartbroken at burying her child.
But mom should have thought of that when her child was little and still able to learn between right and wrong. It is a simple and basic lesson that the Sharpton’s out their don’t think ought to apply to the youth who think it is cool to go gangsta.

  4. This is sad but unfortunately this falls on bad parenting ! Where is the aunts head when she believes her nephew is beautiful ? Anyone with a decent heart and mind would know this kid was indeed ugly and evil inside !

  5. Thank you, Craig, for an extremely well-written article and for having the guts to see and tell the truth. Just before all the race baiting over Trayvon started, I had decided to write a book about racism in America. Having grown up in the 60’s it was a subject I’d often pondered but hadn’t tackled because it’s a little out of my genre. (I write romance.) I surveyed hundreds of people of all races about their racial views and was taken aback by some of their responses.

Many of them wanted to talk about Trayvon, and gave the same rhetoric, “He was a child. A child! And Zimmerman killed him in cold blood! He killed an unarmed child!” I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to tell them like it is…. Trayvon attacked Zimmerman, not the other way around. Trayvon didn’t know Zimmerman was armed. Surprise, surprise. Trayvon was a thug, up to no good, and if Zimmerman hadn’t shot him, Trayvon very well may have killed Zimmerman. He got what he deserved. And about Trayvon being a child. He looked like a man. He was large and well-muscled and he thought he had the advantage. Were the roles reversed and Trayvon the one arrested for murder, I guarantee you he would have been tried as an adult.

Okay, my rant is over. Again, thank you for saying what needed to be said!
