Today is for Heroes

In 1971, the federal government decided it was more important to have a 3 day weekend than it was to honor those who gave their lives in the service of our nation.

That is a sad but true fact.

Memorial Day USED to be on May 30th, regardless of what day of the week that date fell upon but, 3 days off for federal workers was more important and we now have mattress sales and used car blow-outs instead of parades and the marking of the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers.

Memorial Day has become a sad reminder of those who don’t remember.

There are those who say that the wars, WWI and WWI, perhaps even Korea and Nam were too long ago to be relevant today and far TOO many can’t even tell you what the civil war was about or who we defeated in the War of Revolution to gain our independence.

Too long ago?

Let’s put it this way…

Were a person born on July 4th 1776 and that person were to live to be 100 years old and then another was to be born on the day of the first’s passing, July 4th 1876 and so on…

Right now, the 3rd link in the chain would be but 37 years old.

WWI was too long ago to be remembered or relevant?

WWII?

Korea? Vietnam?

If people believe that, and too many do, than to what do they attribute our freedoms?

Those who gave their lives in the service of our nation deserve more than a 3 day weekend.

They deserve the respect of a grateful nation.

Lincoln said, “Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.”

But why? WHY should we honor those who served and died?

Because, those who did so, regardless of the war or conflict to which they were sent, died not in the quest to conquer but to liberate and that is a very important distinction.

Somehow then, it seems fitting that the war in which more American soldiers gave their lives than any other in our history was our OWN war. The Civil War in which those who fought and died, regardless of north or south, should also be remembered.

The North had its heroes as did the South and the war which could have torn this country apart ended with the house united rather than divided.

In fact, it was 3 years after the end OF the Civil War, in 1868, that “Decoration Day” was created as a way to remember ALL our fallen soldiers.

Just 103 years later, it became a 3 day weekend…A mattress sale and a used car blow-out sale.

Today, Obama will go through the photo-op motions.

He’ll place a wreath.

The “president” who leads from behind and left Americans to die in a far-away country while issuing stand down orders will lay a wreath.

The “president” who forgot to salute a living marine will “salute” those who have died.

The “president” who calls the Ft. Hood terrorist attack, “workplace violence” and refuses to respect those killed or wounded there with military honors will ACT like he respects and honors those who have fallen throughout our history.

Today is not for us. This is NOT a day for US to spend at the beach or traveling or buying stuff just because it’s on sale and it’s not a day to take advantage of photo-ops either.

This day, Memorial Day, is THEIR day.

A day set aside from all the others to honor those who sacrificed everything while wearing our nation’s uniforms.

Memorial Day is for heroes and there is nothing…NOTHING…heroic about a mattress sale.

  1. true, it’s about those who died for our freedoms as most people do not realize about today’s holiday.

Met an old (65) Vietnam vet today walking down Hwy 60 into Phoenix. He’s walking fm San Diego to D.C. in “Support the U.S. Constitution”. Cool! Amazing that he is once again fighting and defending our freedoms from corrupt bureaucrats who harass innocent Americans.

At least someone is in the streets! Gave him a few bucks, but he needs more to pay for the pamphlets he’s passing out of the U.S. Constitution. At least his not some large bureaucratic political group. He’s just an old vet so I support him.

  2. The Important Stuff, It was a good lesson. For Muslim terrorists

    1. It was an Islamic Attack

    2. It was a simple attack

    3. It can be repeated all across America and England very easily.

    4. The Muslims will be heroes and martyrs to 80% of America and English Muslims.

    5. It will happen again!

Watch for abandon packages and packs. Look for anything out of place. Check Middle Eastern people for nervousness or carrying something large under their clothing.

Treat everyone respectfully if they respond with nervousness check more fully (Israeli Security Methods).

  3. As I Watched The Memorial Day Concert At Our Nation’s Capitol, It Occurred To Me That The American Spirit Is Broader, Deeper, More Powerful And More Full Of Resilience And Determination Than This Present Administration Can Possibly Imagine.
The lens of history will be especially harsh on the Obamas, the Clintons, the Holders, the Napolitanos, DOJ, BATF, IRS and all the posturing, pretending, manipulating and menacing ‘fundamental transformation’ pipsqueaks now haunting the halls of our Capitol and government buildings.
When this present regime ends, and it will, they will all be considered a footnote, a shameful, embarrassing anomaly in an otherwise honorable tradition of service and loyalty to our Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
May they enjoy their remaining moments of attempting to despoil this nation.
Even now, the truth about their ridiculous, impotent hatred of America is being exposed.
Future journalism classes will examine how the news media of this era were overthrown and actually became servile to a government that abused and investigated them.
The complete loss of objectivity and integrity, the cheerleading and enthusiastic participation in cover-ups will be held up as the worst of examples, and no one will find humor in a thrill up the leg.
But this time of weakness, complacency and foolish placating of our enemies will soon be behind us.
    The Republic will stand.
