As Herman Cain “suspended” his campaign on Saturday, he promised that soon, he would endorse a candidate and in my article, “CAIN SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN,” I suggested he make that endorsement as soon as possible.

Now, we learn that Mr. Cain will, TODAY, make his endorsement.

It WILL be Newt Gingrich.

This will no doubt please some and anger others, but Newt will receive the Cain Endorsement later this morning.

Here’s the conundrum for some Cain supporters.

Cain has been called the “Ultimate Outsider” and many of his most ardent supporters have clung to him because of his Tea Party stance. Now, Mr. Cain will endorse the man many feel is the “Ultimate Insider” Newt Gingrich.

While polls over the last week have shown that should Cain bow out of the race, most of his support would go to Gingrich with some falling to Romney or Paul, and I speculated that Gingrich would receive the Cain endorsement, it is yet to be seen just how MUCH of Cain’s support will fall to Newt in reality.

My guess is that Gingrich will garner an extra 6- to 8-point bump in the next round of polls netting him a gain of 4 to 6 points over his GOP competitors.

This is important heading into the Iowa Caucus which is now just less than a month away.

On a related note, today, Newt Gingrich will be meeting with Donald Trump in what has become the “Trump Lotto” as each GOP candidate in the top tier has had such a meeting.

For his part, Trump is now set to moderate a debate on December 27^th. Ron Paul has not minced words in his feelings toward that debate saying, “I don’t quite understand the marching to his office,” Paul said about several candidates making pilgrimages to see Trump in New York. “I didn’t realize he had the ability to lay on hands and anoint people.”

Jesse Benton, Paul’s national campaign Chairman released a statement attributed to Paul stating: “The selection of a reality television personality to host a presidential debate that voters nationwide will be watching is beneath the office of the Presidency and flies in the face of that office’s history and dignity.”

Naturally, Trump fired back.

“Few people take Ron Paul seriously and many of his views and presentation make him a clown-like candidate… I am glad he and Jon Huntsman, who has inconsequential poll numbers or a chance of winning, will not be attending the debate and wasting the time of the viewers who are trying very hard to make a very important decision.”

The Huntsman camp had released this statement: “We have declined to participate in the ‘Presidential Apprentice’ Debate with The Donald. The Republican Party deserves a serious discussion of the issues so voters can choose a leader they trust to defeat President Obama and turn our economy around.”

Think what you will of a Donald Trump moderated debate, but bere is why you, and the candidates SHOULD take it more seriously:

Trump has deep pockets and widespread influence. I’m not saying he’s a King or Queen maker in the political world but, HE thinks he is and he CAN sway people within the business community.

Trump also is still making noise about a possible return to the race HIMSELF and says if he doesn’t see a GOP candidate who HE feels can beat Obama, he could well jump back in…as an INDEPENDENT candidate.

Of a Trump-moderated debate, Newt had THIS to say: “I would want to go just for the entertainment value, I can’t imagine what a debate hosted by Donald Trump would be like.” Newt’s camp then tweeted, “Newt has accepted the invitation from Newsmax for a Dec. 27 debate in Iowa.”

So far, Newt is the ONLY candidate to accept the invitation and that, too, is important.

The Trump debate will be held exactly 1 week prior to the Iowa Caucus AND it will be in Des Moines. Gingrich is leading in Iowa right now, picking up Cain’s endorsement this morning, meeting with Trump this afternoon; and Paul, who is currently polling 2^nd in Iowa, doesn’t want a darn thing to do with Donald Trump.

My guess – and it’s only a guess at this point – is that within days after  the December 27^th debate and just days BEFORE the Iowa Caucus, Trump will endorse Newt Gingrich.

As Gingrich expands his lead over fellow GOP candidates, the Fox News debate on December 15^th will certainly become the focal point as Newt now wears the target and will no doubt become the lightning rod for attacks.

While other GOP contenders have fallen after reaching the top of the polls, I don’t see this happening with Gingrich as he, much more so than the rest, is capable of handling the slings and arrows while steering the conversation back to the important topics and issues which plague the nation and are most important to the voters.

For now, Cain’s support and, I contend, the bulk of his supporters will go to Gingrich and a great deal will play out over the next 3 weeks.
