Today, it became known that an arrest had been made in September regarding a triple threat plot to bomb the Israeli and Saudi embassies in Washington D.C. as well as to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the United States.
This plot, from reports, had the backing of the Iranians. The two men named in this plot are Manssor Arbabsiar and Gholam Shakuri. Arbabsiar is currently under arrest and has been since late September while Shakuri remains at large and is suspected to be in Iran. Shakuri is part of the Qods Force, a special operations unit of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard and according to reports, the one who signed off on a $100,000.00 down payment on the hit against the Saudi Ambassador.
First, these men were being watched, closely, as this plot unfolded and the contacts for this hit was made between Arbabsiar and an undercover DEA “source” in Mexico who was posing as a high level Member of a drug cartel. These contacts were made last spring. The arrest was made on September 29th.
Immediately, there are a couple of things that jump out in all of this.
We had a DEA “source” imbedded in a Mexican drug cartel and yet we still weren’t able to track the Fast and Furious weapons? I understand there may well be several reasons for this but on the face of it, it looks odd. It could well be that this “source” wasn’t able to blow cover but then, how exactly was the “source” able to get word out regarding this plot?
Okay, second. Iran, if you are a follower of Ron Paul, is a non issue and should be allowed to garner nukes. Here we have a bombing plot to have taken place on U.S. soil, albeit with conventional explosives, as far as we know, but this is a country and regime to be allowed nukes? This is a country and regime which poses no real threat to Israel?
Think again.
Third. It was only one week before this arrest of Arbabsiar that Ahmedinejad was allowed in and out of the U.S. to speak his rubbish from the U.N. podium to the general assembly. Yes, I understand “diplomatic immunity” but, after this episode, if ANY Iranian leader, since I believe Ahmedinejad’s days in power are numbered, is ever allowed on our soil again it is downright criminal.
Further, it has been Iran in the news this week for the arrest of an Iranian actress who is facing a sentence of 90 lashes and one year in jail regarding her appearance in a movie, “My Iran for Sale” and Iran now sits on the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women which says quite a bit for the legitimacy of the U.N. doesn’t it?
Remember also that it was the day Ahmedinejad spoke to the U.N. that he had the “hikers” released and this plot now seems to indicate his attempt at deception in trying to come across as the good guy doesn’t it?
Why we would even consider continuing to pour billions of dollars every year into the U.N. so that they can continue to support can reward countries like Iran is completely beyond me.
Here’s something else which jumps out at me in all of this.
Why? Why would Iran be behind something like this on U.S. soil? Why now?
The answer, at least in part, is clear.
Iran, as do many or our enemies in that region and other, see weakness in our current administration. As I have stated before, this noticed weakness began when Obama bowed to the Saudi King and was bolstered not only by Obama’s apology tour but due to his perceived back turning on Israel and his visible support for groups like the Muslim Brotherhood.
Perhaps the better question would be…Why NOT now? Countries such as Iran can see the handwriting on the wall and are coming to the conclusion that Obama may well be a one term President and before a stronger and more capable President gets elected, they decide to make their move.
Arbabsiar is a naturalized U.S. citizen who holds an Iranian passport and will be held to account in a U.S. court for his actions and yes, he is innocent until proven guilty but it should also be noted that, according to early reports, he has confessed to his part in these plots and there is, reportedly, a money trail regarding that wired $100,000.00 down payment from Shakuri.
For their part, the Saudis say they will take some sort of action against Iran though, at this point, they are not being specific.
Eric Holder, already in the hot seat regarding Fast and Furious, has also stated that the U.S. will take “unspecified action” possibly as early as today.
According to Fox News, a State Department official stated, “We consider this effort to assassinate a diplomat within the United States to be a flagrant violation of international law.”
No kidding.
Finally, here is the last thing which jumps out in my mind. Why is this becoming public knowledge now?
This arrest was made on September 29th. Why did we not hear of it then?
To answer that question we need look no further than today’s news.
Obama’s poll numbers aren’t getting any better.
Holder is about to be subpoenaed.
There’s a GOP debate tonight with Conservative Herman Cain surging in the polls.
Obama’s jobs bill is facing an embarrassing vote tonight in the senate.
Are you getting the picture here? Is this administration trying to overshadow the news by releasing this information at this moment?
Is it a good thing we busted this plot? You bet. Is it a good thing we have one of these bad guys in jail? You bet. Is this something which begs more questions than it answers? You bet.
Does this make Obama and this administration look less weak to our enemies?
That depends on the “unspecified action” we intend to take but I can tell you this…More sanctions will NOT be perceived as strength and it is this administration’s weaknesses which invited this plot to begin with.
But what can the US realistically do about the regime in Iran? We could have taken out Iran’s nuclear program years ago when it would have been much easier with little cost but we didn’t? Further, the US pressured Israel to sit on their hands. The US even went as far as denying Israel access to Iran by imposing a no fly zone for any Israeli jets on a bombing mission to Iran.
Ron Paul is demonised by the mainstream republicans for his stance on this issue, but if you remember it was only Ron Paul and a handful of others in Congress who REFUSED to sign the condemnation of Israel when Israel bombed Iraq’s Osirak nuclear plant in 1981.
Paul also tried to introduce legislation preventing Moslem immigration into the US by stopping the US government from issuing student visas to people from Moslem countries that produce terrorist activities, like Saudi Arabia. But the bill was never voted on mainly because of lack of interest from Republicans in Congress. While on the other hand Bush allowed 10s of 1,000s of Moslems into the US right after 911. Bush quadrupled the number of Moslem student visas that even Clinton gave out!
The Bush administration pushed for Israel to make concessions to the Moslem Arabs occupying Judea and Samaria, against Ron Paul’s advice.
When the republicans in Congress condemn Israel for defending herself, impose restrictions on Israel by not allowing her to fly over Iraq to bomb Iran’s nuke program and coerce Israel into “land for peace” deals with Arabs, but now say that Ron Paul is “anti-Israel” if he doesn’t support the USA going to war with Iran, there is a huge problem with the veracity of Republicans in Congress.
There seems to be a double standard on this issue and THAT needs to be addressed by the people of America before any decisions on what to do with Iran can be addressed.
