1. The whole charade which enough Americans bought to vote for B. Hussein Obama is a lot of smoke and mirrors. So you made history electing a black man but at what cost? The man has no business experience, a horrendous record in the senate, and an angry wife. I don’t care if a goat runs against him,the goat will receive my support. Right now, I am favoring Herman Cain, a successful businessman.

2. It is very distressing to see actions and mouthed words that may or not translate into what most of us feel is reported. Intellectual elitists who feel that they do not need the coaching and advise of the protocol officers asigned to the White House. (Protocol officers who have spent a career in learning the correct deportment for every state ceromony.) There are also pictures circulating of this couple standing with their left hand over their hearts. Placing hand over the heart is usually a gesture of respect for the national anthem, however it is the right hand. Most people at one time had learned this by 1st grade in school! One should not believe everything we see and less of what we read, what is puported to be news, but if there is even and iota of truth to this abhoring display of disrespect please everyone remeber this next November. To all Democrats recall this person and run a candiate with honor and integrity.

3. Mr. Andreson, your ire is raised by what you believe Mrs. Obama is saying to her husband during the flag ceremonies. Perhaps your interpretation is correct, perhaps not. Let’s say it is, for the sake of argument. You have the right to an opinion, and, since this is America, you also have the right to express that opinion. In fact, with the constitutionally-guaranteed right of free speech, you even have the right to publish the kind of vitriolic, hateful, disrespectful piece of editorial journalism that is on the screen right here. Because this is America.

   But then you conclude your diatribe by screaming (in all capital letters) that Michelle Obama should get out of this country, because she does not share your opinion. That SHE, unlike you, does not have the right to express her views, if they differ from yours.

   May I suggest, Sir, that it is you who should leave this country, if you do not support its fundamental values, guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, and fought for by patriots who have shed their blood and given their lives to protect and preserve the Freedom that is our American heritage.
   People who believe that only one opinion should be allowed to be expressed belong in countries like North Korea, Iran, or Cuba. Since you deny the rights of other citizens to express opinions that differ from yours, you apparently do not feel at ease in America, but would feel much more comfortable in one of those totalitarian countries.
   So instead of yelling that those with whom you disagree should “GET OUT!”, you and those in this thread of responses who call for the Obamas to be thrown out of the USA should be consistent with your own stated values, and line up at the airport first yourself.
   Either that, or content yourself with reasonable and respectful disagreement with the opinions of others, including Mrs. Obama, rather than this kind of hateful “you get out of MY COUNTRY” language that demonstrates that you do not understand what America is.

4. Outraged is not sufficient for this. I know of two “lip readers” who were not aware of what she said, and both of them said without hesitation “She said ‘All this for a damned flag?’ ”

   I have no doubt that if she or her husband ever sees this, the only thing that will come out of it, is for her to make sure her mouth is covered in the future.

5. It’s time to bring America back to the real Americans. 6. As an atheist I consider the vast majority of the commentators to place the importance of the flag in the same way they treat the bible and other religious icons. When you realize there are not supernatural forces controlling our lives, e.g., Jesus Christ, the son of god, you are able to put things like this into perspective. All it takes are people such as Glen Beck to stir you up and watch you display your juvenile anger at the thought that somebody could say anything “unholy” about your symbolic icons, political or religious. Read over these comments, the choir sings the song Beck tells them to!

20. I’ve read a good number of the comments concerning this video and I have to conclude that the people that seem to “get it” are mostly servicemen. For good reason. Military people all have the past histories of their respective service branches instilled in them from the moment they report fo boot camp. Some, like myself, come from military families so they have the added benefit of first hand “sea stories” told from their parents. My mother was a WAVE and my father was a petty officer in the Navy during WWII so I know what it means to serve this country. They knew as I do exactly what our flag means. It means if you have to take on a superior force as our Navy did in the early years of the war in order to buy us time to restructure our industry, then that’s what they did knowing full well that there was a good chance a lot of good men would go down with their ships. It means if marines have to die to put that flag up on Mt. Suribachi then some good marines would be carried away in their ponchos. It means if bomber crews wade through the flak and Messerschmitts in order to take out factories in Germany then a lot of airmen will have to be incarcerated, some for years. Most of those men are now dead felled not by their adversaries but by time itself but I will lay odds that every man jack would gladly go through it all again just to see that flag waving in a free breeze. The Obamas don’t “get it” and if anyone of you wonders why that is so than you haven’t learned a thing. They come from something other than Tom Brokaws “the greatest generation”. They come from the dirty gutters of south Chicago where everyone hates anyone who has is good just because they don’t. They believe that everyone should be equal and hard work and dedication to ones country don’t mean a damned thing. Sound familiar? It should because it comes from all the foreign entities that the servicemen mentioned above had to contend with, the Japs, the Nazis and the Fascists. We and our allies proved the hard way that those totalitarian systems don’t work and never will. THAT’S why the Obamas and their ilk hate our flag, our country and people. They and the democrats would lie, cheat, and steal their way into positions of power just to prove their ideology is the only way to go. I propose they all travel to Washington, D.C. with a Marine and visit Arlington to see all of the men and women who DID die for that flag and while they’re there go look at the Marine memorial of the men who raised “that flag” on Iwo Jima. If they don’t “get it” then, there’s no hope and our only recourse is to get them the hell out of office and 3elect someone who does get it.

24. It is clear to me that the “vision” that our president and 1st lady have is very different than my own. It is a travisty that this creaton has perpetrated on the public, of well meaning citizens, and he may have bought enough votes to make a decent run in 2012, but if this country votes this man into office again, we deserve what we get. 51. I am a retired verteran having proudly served in the alabama national guard and the army for 44 years. I have had the priviledge to serve in several different countries with black and white soldiers and have never heard the words ‘all this for a damn flag’. If I had heard those words someone would have carried an a– kicking. I served twenty years as a Marine, 11 enlisted and 9 commissioned; it included a nasty, very ugly 13 month tour in Vienam (67-68); while I do not view our National Ensign as the Holy Grail, I do respect what it represents and the sacrifices of the many, both civilians and armed forces personnel. I will tell you that there is no thrill like it when you see it flying over foreign soil after a bitter acrion. I take a very dim view of any American expressing any kind of disrespect, by physical or verbal action, however it’s a free country and Mrs. Obama did not relenquish her First Amendment rights when her spouse became president of the United States. We all have the power to rectify what occurred in 2008 during the 2012 electrion, so let’s do it.

    I appreciate what you are saying about respecting the Office of the POTUS but I will have to politely disagree with your opinion. By my way of thinking, it is a two way street. 133. I was 5 years old when my father died at 36 years old from spinal meningitis and pneumonia. He was a WWI Marine and served and fought in the trenches in France where he probably contracted these diseases. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery. I can never forget the presentation of our Flag to my mother and how she held it to her breast and cried and cherished it. She flew it every Memorial Day in honor of his sacrifice! I am a 30-year Navy retired Chief Warrant Officer W-4 and when I was stationed in Pensacola, FL. one of my duties when I was OOD was to attend the graveside burials of deceased Naval Aviators at the Barrancas National Cemetery and present our National Flag to the next-of-kin on behalf of the President. This was one of the difficult things I ever had to do during my Navy career as the wives and mothers inevitably cried and sometimes screamed as they took the Flag and it caused flash-backs to my father’s burial in Arlington. I usually teared up and had a hard time saying the words upon presentation of our Flag while they were crying but somehow got through it. Our Flag symbolizes the love of Country and sacrifices of our servicemen and women and is cherished by all those receiving it at graveside ceremonies!! I can hardly wait for 2012 so we can get rid of those two and fumigate the White House!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

     I served in the armed forces of the United States of America (Navy) and maybe I picked up a little more respect for the “flag” than some. You see I have friends and relatives alike that came home with the great honor of having that symbol, the “flag”, draped across their casket. This is the symbol of ever fallen hero that has died, or was wounded for the privilege to have served this great nation under that “flag”. I now have a son that has been serving our country for the last 13 years and has no plans of getting out any time soon because he is still fighting for every Americans’ right to have their own opinion about that “flag”.      America was built on what that peace of cloth, the “flag”, stands for. I honestly think that people like the Obama’s have no idea as to the real symbolism for which it stands. So let me detail what my thoughts are about the American Flag and for what I think it stands.

     The American Flag: On June 14, 1777, in Philadelphia the Continental Congress adopted the stars and stripes as our nation’s flag. Originally the flag had thirteen stripes alternating red and white, with a field of blue having thirteen white stars, this represented a new constellation, a new nation that was dedicated to the personal and religious liberty of all mankind. Today’s flag has fifty stars, one for each of the fifty sovereign states in the greatest constitutional republic in the world. The red stripes stand the fearless courage, integrity and the self-sacrifice along with the devotion of the American men, women, sons and daughters who defend it. The white stripes stand for liberty and equality for all. The blue field is the blue of heaven, loyalty, and faith. Our flag represents these eternal principles: liberty, justice, and humanity, along with the freedom of speech, religion, assembly, the press, and the sanctity of our homes. The American flag is a living symbol of our nation’s law: the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. The flag is the sacred emblem of our country. It symbolizes our birthright, our heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow of many. It is our title deed of freedom, which is ours to enjoy and to hold in trust for posterity. But let’s not ever forget that if for any reason we fail to keep this sacred trust, if it becomes nullified and destroyed, we and our children will become salves to the dictators waiting to pounce on this great nation.

     So as you can see that to me this is a most honored peace of cloth, this symbol, this “flag” that is handled with such great ceremony, and reverence. There have been wars fought for the right to honor our “flag”, the symbolism of this great land of the free and the brave. Where people today are still flocking to for the right to the freedoms it stands for and we sometimes take for granted. Let’s not forget where we came from and do everything in our power to make sure we do not lose what we have.

     GOD BLESS THIS NATION, OUR FLAG FOR WHICH IT STANDS AND ALL THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN THAT HAVE GIVEN THEIR ALL TO PROTECT IT.

172. Addition to the above comment… I have NO insurance and Mr. Obama made it sound so good when he introduced “Obama Care” in 2007. I voted for him (my mistake!) as I almost did Hilary. 173. Unfortunately it’s true. I’ve read most of the comments here. I happen to know a few vets, one in particularly from Vietnam. He fought for the country as did many at that time only to be shunned for the most part. It’s so sad that most people have been “socialized”. People like him and myself really haven’t a chance from the “big” government. No more of the across the board raises annually for them when the federal government employees (working as well as retired) as well as social security recipients have not seen a raise in several years.

     Ask me who the last President was that showed respect for all this country stands for? My choice would be IKE.
