In the ever changing, ever revolving door of the GOP presidential race, another name is about to do more than throw a hat in the ring. Paul Ryan is about to jump over the top rope – and if he does, he won’t be stealing ANYBODY’S thunder.
Paul Ryan will MAKE the thunder!
What makes Paul Ryan a viable candidate?
IF this election is ALL about the economy, and it’s certainly shaping up just that way, Paul Ryan would be the ONLY candidate who has put forth, on paper, and had passed by the House, an actual budget.
The democrats haven’t produced a budget much less voted on one in well over 800 days. Obama put one out there, and IT didn’t garner a single vote going down 97-0 in the senate; he’s produced nothing but empty promises of some sort of a plan since.
Bachmann VOTED for the Ryan budget – but that’s a far cry from producing one.
Romney and Perry have produced budgets as governors, but never on the national level – and both will clearly be facing stiff questions over their respected state’s budgets as the race wears on.
McCotter? Nope.
Paul? Huh uh…not in this economic era.
Santorum? No.
Gingrich…okay…yeah…he WAS speaker of the House but that’s a distant memory and we’re talking about the here and now.
Cain? In the board room – but he’s never held an elected office so…No.
Face it…in today’s challenging time, in this era, at the national level, Ryan leads the pack at least on the budget and a plan for the future.
Paul Ryan would also have the power of the Tea Party behind him. While Harry Reid is sticking to his assertion that the Tea Party is about to fade away and wields no clout…hot air at best…a Paul Ryan candidacy would set the Tea Party to such a high roiling boil even ol’ Harry would have the wrinkles steamed out of him.
Having Paul Ryan jump IN would surely have others jumping OUT of the race because in creating thunder, Ryan would be a huge draw financially from supporters of other candidates.
Gingrich would go.
Santorum…probably gone.
McCotter, who hasn’t been able to get much of any traction would more than likely hand whatever he has over to Ryan.
Paul? He’ll hang on as long as he can because he’s just stubborn enough to do so.
What about Romney and Bachmann? They’ll stay because they are solidly in the hunt as is Rick Perry – but Perry’s problem is going to be interesting. Rick Perry has been the Governor of Texas for 10 years – and in Texas, the GOP is split on his support. That doesn’t bode well when you add Ryan into the mix. Ryan already has nationwide name recognition and having operated on the national stage, he would lead the pack in the polls and in the pockets.
Bachmann stays because she, too, has Tea Party support and is seen as still being enough outside the beltway to have not been tarnished by the good old boys.
This is not to say Paul Ryan is a good old boy. He’s far from it.
What Paul Ryan would bring to the race is a strong presence on any and all matters economic, a Tea Party belief in the Constitution and smaller government and the ability to steer spending cuts.
The unknown for a Ryan candidacy would be his foreign policy and while foreign policy IS vital, and should be a bigger part of the dialogue, for now, it’s the economy driving the process.
How would Paul Ryan stack up against Obama in the general election? THAT is the REAL question isn’t it?
IF this election IS all about the economy … considering all of Obama’s self proclaimed success … Ryan mops the floor with Obama.
If this election has anything at all to do with foreign affairs … again … considering where Obama has placed our country on the world stage, after bowing to foreign leaders, after a global apology tour and after becoming a worldwide laughing stock…
Let’s just say the floors will sparkle.
IF Paul Ryan DOES get in…WHY does he get in?
It has been said, with a degree of accuracy, that to run for President, one must have a fair-sized ego – but I submit, as the times, they are a changing, there is now another reason, one we haven’t seen in quite a while: To do what’s right for the country.
Paul Ryan really doesn’t seem like an ego maniac…does he?
So…WILL Paul Ryan get in?
If you’re looking for the next shiny new ball…another one will bounce by eventually but if you’re looking for something much more substantial than a glittering diversion…
Get ready to welcome Paul Ryan to the stage!
I wouldn’t mind seeing Ryan with Jon Huntsman Jr as his VP. Huntsman has the foreign relations credentials that you mention Ryan lacking. Ryan appeals to the Tea Party, Huntsman to the Moderates and Independents. I think they’d make a solid team.
