Here’s my take on the GOP Presidential Debate in Iowa, on August 11th…
Nothing unexpected. No surprises.
Bachmann and Pawlenty spent the night sniping at each other. Fun to watch, but not exactly Presidential. The Moderator did issue a low blow to Bachmann, asking if, as President, she’d be submissive to her husband. I’m not her biggest fan, but that was sexist and totally inappropriate.
Newt has been praised for “standing up to the press/moderator.” To me, he came off as petulant and whiny every time he got a real question instead of a soft one. I wasn’t impressed with him, or his answers.
Cain did actually impress me. Mostly that he seemed willing to admit he didn’t know everything, and to learn. That’s a great attitude, and rare in a politician; but then, he’s a businessman, not a politician. I think that is both his greatest strength, and weakness.
Santorum was … there. Nothing that made me like him more or less. His stance on abortion seemed a bit more extreme than the GOP main stream, but he explained it well.
Paul was out there, but that was expected. Nothing new or unusual from him. His supporters were, as always, enthusiastic.
Romney didn’t do anything great, but didn’t blunder. Right now, that seems to be what he needs to do. I didn’t see him gaining or losing points. Most people’s minds seem to be made up on Romney, and I doubt last night changed anyone’s opinion.
Huntsman was finally on the national stage. I think he got a few good answers in, but so did other candidates. He stuck to his beliefs (support for civil unions), even when they weren’t the most popular, and I respect that. He showed the civility that he promised.
The vote against raising taxes was unanimous, but any candidate who didn’t raise their hand on that might as well have announced they were dropping out of the race.
I have to agree with an earlier assessment here on The National Patriot, that the winner of last night’s debate was the guy who wasn’t even there … Gov. Perry.

Have to admit the debate kept my attention as I wanted to learn something, however, my take on it was nothing changed for me, but I have a better sense of who is off the list. Everyone except Romney and Bachmann. Perry is being pushed by the media so I know that he is a non starter. Palin is the obvious winner and she was not even there.
Sorry, I don’t agree with your assessment of Newt. He’s the only person on the panel that gave viewers real answers. The others continue to answer with generalized “pap.” Just me. Note that I didn’t say he would or will win the nomination. Some of the candidates just look good in the “suit.”
