Perhaps you heard the big brouhaha when a Liberal Gene was discovered by science and announced in October 2010. (See the Science Daily story here.)

I have also pondered the similarities between Jimmy Carter and Barak Obama in their “leadership” style and above average liberalism.

Well, after many hours of researching and cocktailing, I have had my EUREKA moment!

I shared my brilliant (yet slurred) insight with a family member and he found photographic proof of not only the evolution of the liberal gene – but of the evolution of those possessing it. It clearly began with the great apes – the ones who would steal a banana from one clan mate to give to another…

But I digress…

The Carter Years

The year was 1979, and Jimmy Carter came into the White House after Ford briefly filled in for Richard Nixon. The people of the country were tired of Republicans and oil shortages that occurred in 1973 when OPEC closed the door on the USA.

He quickly went to work to “fix” the nation yearning for change:

• He gave the Panama Canal to Panama
• He negotiated a SALT II Treaty with the Soviet Union
• Increased diplomatic ties to China
• Preached about human rights
• Formed the Department of Energy to find an replacement for fossil fuels
• Developed a national energy policy which included price control
• Formed the Department of Education to improve education and keep American students competitive
• He set the national speed limit to 55 miles per hour
• Declared amnesty for draft dodgers
• He championed environmental legislation to protect land from being drilled for new sources of oil
• Stood by during the Iranian revolution – while Iranian students protested in the United States; watched as the American Embassy in Iran was overrun; noted that many Americans were taken as hostages by Iranians; did not take any action and allowed a radical Muslim regime to takeover Iran
• Delivered a stern speech about turning down the heat in our homes and driving slower to save on fossil fuels.
• Continued Stagflation (inflation on steroids)
• Gave Detroit a bailout: The Chrysler Corporation Loan Guarantee Act of 1979

Hmmmmm – I feel a sense of déjà vu here – sounds so familiar….

Oh, that’s right! It sounds like the inspiring administration currently on the airwaves!

The Obama Years (so far)

• He gave the Panama Canal to Panama (give Obama time, he will find something to give away – perhaps California to Mexico)
• He negotiated a SALT Treaty with Russia – Check
• Increased debt to China – Check
• Still funding the Department of Energy to find an replacement for fossil fuels – Check
• Developed a national energy policy which included price control – has promised to increase the cost of fossil fuels to force alternative fuels, Check
• Supports the Unions and the Department of Education to improve education and keep American students competitive
• He set the national speed limit to 55 miles per hour to save on fossil fuels – urged Americans to keep their tires inflated for the same purpose
• Declared amnesty for draft dodgers – sign the Repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and shows no support for armed forces
• He championed environmental legislation to protect land from being drilled for new sources of oil – enacted moratorium on deep water drilling
• Stood by during the Iranian revolution – while Iranian students protested in the United States; watched as the American Embassy in Iran was overrun; noted that many Americans were taken as hostages by Iranians; did not take any action and allowed a radical Muslim regime to takeover Iran – Stood by the Tunisian, Egyptian, and Libyan revolutions, allowing Americans to be in danger and taking no action
• Delivered a stern speech about turning down the heat in our homes and driving slower to save on fossil fuels – delivered stern speeches on being civil, staying competitive like Sputnik, and being Green and taking fewer vacations
• Continued Stagflation (inflation on steroids) – Debt overload burdened with increased spending with no financial end in sight
• Gave Detroit a bailout: The Chrysler Corporation Loan Guarantee Act of 1979… – hello, why not bail out Chrysler AND General Motors!

See any similarities?

And as a laughable aside, Carter says Obama has been very weak in his handling of the Middle East. Wow! Pot, meet Kettle!

When Carter ended his term in office to Reagan, his approval ratings were lower than Nixon’s…

Obama’s ratings are going down, and even George W. Bush is being remembered more fondly since the Obama regime has flexed its muscles…

Begging, the question, will another Reagan step up to free us from this malaise? One can only hope!
