As the violence in Libya moves into its third week with Gadiffi continuing to use his weapons of war against his own people, the Obama administration continues to duck its responsibility. The world wonders why? So do I.

There was a time when the world looked to Washington in times of trouble the likes of which we now see in Libya. They looked for leadership, for action and for the protection of those who reached out for freedom. The United States stood for and WITH freedom. Seemingly and sadly, that is no longer the case.

Obama keeps saying, “Let me be clear” and that “Gadiffi must go” but the only thing clear is that Obama has no plan, no strategy, no intention of MAKING Gadiffi go anywhere. People in the streets of that country’s towns and cities are facing desperate consequences for their belief that they should be free. Gadaffi has ordered his military aircraft to fire on them…to destroy them. He has promised to fight to the end, rivers of blood and to die a martyr. Obama continues to issue the “Or else” directive.

OR ELSE WHAT???

Let ME be clear…Obama’s stern words and lack luster directives ring as hollow as an empty cavern. Our enemies and the enemies of freedom know it. Brutal leaders in oppressive nations know it. Sadly, our allies Know it and those putting their lives on the line to free their people also know it.

In the 80’s, when Gadaffi was responsible for the deaths of 2 U.S. military personnel, President Reagan responded IMEDIATELY with a military strike and HE addressed the nation that night promising that wherever and WHENEVER Americans were threatened, WE WOULD RESPOND! Our enemies knew it was true. Brutal dictators in oppressive nations knew it. Our allies knew it and so did those who were putting their lives on the line for freedom. Guess who else knew it? WE knew it!

When the first shots were fired by Libyan war birds, Libyans asked for help. The next volley brought a call for a no fly zone over Libya. Next it was Great Brittan calling for no fly zones and NOW, even the Arab States are demanding action to stop the senseless murder of Libyan rebels. Obama continues to consult NATO and the UN. Obama “says” he’s now “considering” some sort of action.

Consulting, considering, hemming and hawing, trying to do the politically correct thing instead of doing the right thing. That is exactly what the world now expects of the once mighty United States. It’s exactly what our enemies are COUNTING on.

It’s NOT just Libya either. Obama MUST start considering, consulting and formulating a plan. He could start by getting a clue. Many nations are on the brink in the Middle East and as surely as Libya isn’t the first, it won’t be the last.

Would it be fair to ask those around the world who yearn for freedom and  look for the leadership the United States was once known for to just…hang on…for a couple of years…until we find a leader to stand FOR them and WITH them?

The one we have now simply is not so inclined.
