Yesterday, in Paris, an act of such barbarism as to stun even the most hardened cynic took place when gunmen, Islamic terrorists wearing ski masks, stormed in to the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine known for its lampooning of Islam and assassinated at least 12 people including two police officers and ten staff members.

The damn cowards didn’t even have the courage to show their faces.

Among the dead were cartoonists who had, over the years, lent their talents to the magazine’s pages and covers to use absurdity to combat barbarianism.

Cartoons.

That’s what all of this was over.

Cartoons.

Islam, an ideology so peaceful that it can’t stomach a few cartoons or a parody of its warped and barbaric agenda.

Islam’s ideology can issue fatwas, enact Jihad and demand the genocide of any and all who don’t accept their 7th century, pedophile leaders commands but…

Just can’t bring itself to let those who would challenge their ideology continue to breathe.

Religion of peace my ass.

It was a cold and calculated bloodbath in that Paris office building and out on the street where one police officer was gunned down before the three terrorists…later reportedly arrested and identified as Said Kouachi, 34, and Sherif Kouachi, 32….brothers and Mourad Hamyd…a homeless 18 year old.

The early reports proved to be incorrect. the 18 year old DID surrender…Mourad Hamyd…while the other two remain at large.

All three from France…all three of Algerian descent…all three trained as al Qaeda commandos.

During their attack, shouts of allahu akbar could be heard and according to witnesses, they claimed that they had avenged their ‘prophet’ Muhammad.

They avenged a barbaric 7th century pedophile whose good name had been smeared by cartoons by murdering 12 people. Is there any other way to do it?

Obama issued a brief statement calling it a “cowardly, evil” attack and said that “This was an attack on journalists, it’s an attack on our free press.”

While he just couldn’t bring himself to attach the word, “ISLAMIC” to the act of terrorism, I suppose we should give him credit for at least NOT referring to what happened yesterday in Paris an act “of workplace violence.”

Here are just a few of the cartoons that inspired mass murder.

While these images had appeared only in the pages of a French publication before the attack…yesterday and into the night…these same images and more appeared on hastily made signs and placards being carried and worn by people in the streets of France.

Not however in the pages of the NY Daily News who printed a photo of someone holding a copy of Charlie Hebdo but blurred out the image itself…perhaps as a show of respect for the worst the world has to offer.

Shame on them for lacking the courage of those gunned down in yesterday’s terrorist attack.

If there is any good news to come from such a horrific event let it be this…

The terrorists did not receive their hoped for response to this act of barbaric cowardice.

People across Europe did not hide in terror. They took to the streets.

People did not suppress the images found so upsetting to terrorists…they displayed them.

They were not terrorized…they were angered.

And one cartoonist, Ruben L. Oppenheimer, bound to some of the dead by profession, had perhaps the greatest retort…not with words but with his chosen weapon…the pen.

Je Suis Charlie. Nous Sommes Tous Charlie.
